Hello, it’s your friend Susan E. Oser.

I am a member of the NFBPWC Michigan Affiliate and the BPW/Michigan Foundation Club.

I am also your newly appointed JDEI chair.

For those new to the organization or those who don’t know, JDEI stands for Justice, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. It is the committee that seeks to educate and learn about the parts of the world around us that are not straight and white, and, for that reason are often considered “the other”.

Thanks to previous chair, Sher Singh, this committee has done a lot to educate on a variety of issues related to Immigration, the Hispanic community, and more.

So where does my expertise come in? Well, diversity has always been a part of my life. I have a lot of connections locally and internationally of various races, ages, and shades of skin.

Formally, I teach remotely for Carrot Global which is an English as a Second Language school based in South Korea (where I lived from 2000-2003). I’m also a facilitator for a group called Scrambled Eggs which is an affiliate group of Transgender Michigan (more information in the LGBTQ+ liaison section, to which I’m returning in my role as liaison).

And when I don’t have a lot of things going on, I like to be creative with decorating, pen-palling, and anything where I can make something.

My personal motto is “work hard, have fun, and embrace your authentic self”.

I am the Affiliate Liaison (connecting those who do not have a local connection) for BPW/MI Federation, and the current creator/editor of the Monday Minute. Any information passed from NFBPWC will be highlighted by our Michigan members there.

As the new chair, I am hoping to bring this committee to the next level by putting a focus on the “I”. It not only is about inclusion, but highlighting and embracing the unique individuals and ideals that make up our society. More of this will be discussed in our first meeting. Stay tuned to the website, the events page, and email announcements for a date and time.

In the meantime, I know this small and mighty team has members who will support me in this new role, and I hope I can increase activity and membership for this committee. I look forward to working with Sher as my mentor through this small transition.
